Season 1
Ep. 1 · The Icon of Theophany
Our video on the icon and Feast of Theophany in the Orthodox Church. Theophany (from Greek theophania, meaning "appearance of God") is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church, celebrated on January 6. It is the feast which reveals the Most Holy Trinity to the world through the Baptism of the Lord.
Ep. 2 · The Icon of the Resurrection of Christ
The Icon of the Resurrection depicts the most important moment in the history of time! It depicts when the uncreated God pulled us out of our fallen state of death and brought us into everlasting light. In iconography, according to the Eastern Roman or Romeik iconographic type, the Resurrection—as early as the eighth century—is portrayed primarily by the Descent of the Saviour into Hades.
Ep. 3 · The Icon of the Nativity of Christ
One of the unique aspects of "Byzantine" iconography is how multiple events are presented within a single frame, as in the icon of the Nativity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Such an icon offers us a window into the spiritual realm, where the birth of Christ, the most important event in our history, can be seen at the same time as events which occurred just before or after the nativity. Through this we see a most sacred moment, an event within time and yet transcending and even transforming time; the moment when the pre-eternal God entered the temporal realm as one of us.
Ep. 4 · The Icon of the Annunciation of the Theotokos
According to the Gospel of Luke 1:26-38, the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary to announce to her that she would conceive and bear a son, even though she "knew no man." This date was selected by the Church Fathers to be exactly nine months ahead of the Nativity of Our Lord, indicating that Christ was conceived in perfection at that time "of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary," as stated in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed.
